Anyways, I have been relativly lazy all summer long, so I have not been camping as much, when fall arrives ill be in the Adirondacks every weekend camping at the base of my favorite mountains and hopefully going up a few. I feel I missed out on much this summer, but also perhapse getting older (25) so maby I should be staying at home a bit more. I like fall much better, im glad all worked out and I hope you get an oppertunity to enjoy yourself this fall, if you enjoy being out then...
Sam and I just got back from the school 3 day/ 2 night camp out. I am still kinda on a high - Sam was just awesome. The camp challenged just about every single one of Sam's sensitive areas and he surpassed everyones expectations Not one meltdown and only a few times where he needed support in working out issues with the other kids. He went up on a 20 ft high challenge course in the trees( with a harness) and managed to walk a few feet out before deciding to come down. He crawled through the brush in the dark with me and a friend trying to capture the fort, ate campfood, used foreign toilets, slept in a cabin without me and did everything that was expected of him. He had a blast. The other kids seem to accept him and even help him out without treating him *special*. One kid told me that Sam used to say "ass" for "yes", but now he just says "yes" and the boy next to him said" yeah,I used to talk funny too," It was just so matter of fact. One of the moms was surprised that it was Sam who was the autistic kid, as she had been trying to figure out which one it was and didn't suspect Sam. I wanted to kiss her
Two years ago it was a completely different story. I just wanted to share this because when Sam was 6 I couldn't imagine what 8 would look like. I would have liked to have seen more success stories and I have decided to share Sam's in hope that other parents of bit older kids will share theirs. I'm exhausted, feverish and sore. It was worth it. Off to bed with my hot toddy now. mama to Sam 8 yrs PDD NOS OCD ODD PPD and Alex 2 yrs
